My husband and I love to read, and we have made reading a priority with our boys from the time they were born. The first things I bought when I found out I was pregnant with my first son were a set of <em>Alice in Bibleland <\/em>books I found at an antique store (special to my childhood) and a running stroller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve written about encouraging a love of reading in a <a href=\"http:\/\/readersgottaread.com\/?p=49\">reluctant readers<\/a> and how we make <a href=\"http:\/\/readersgottaread.com\/?p=483\">reading a priority<\/a> in our family. One of the biggest keys to raising readers is simply introducing them to great children\u2019s authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some authors have a special ability to connect with kids generation and generation. In this post, I\u2019m sharing five classic children\u2019s authors whose books help kids fall in love with reading \u2013 and why their stories still work today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Five Children\u2019s Authors Kids Never Outgrow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dr. Seuss \u2013 playful rhymes that help early readers build confidence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stan and Jan Berenstain \u2013 relatable family stories and gentle life lessons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dav Pilkey \u2013 hilarious books that hook reluctant readers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beverly Cleary \u2013 realistic characters kids immediately recognize<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Judy Blume \u2013 funny and honest stories about growing up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dr. Seuss: Books for Early Readers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Seuss books are classics, with his earliest book being published in 1937 and his last book in 1990. Some of them are actually really good.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stan and Jan Berenstain: Books for Young Readers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I saved <a href=\"http:\/\/readersgottaread.com\/?p=120\">my collection of Berenstain Bear books<\/a> for my sons. They\u2019re exposed to new vocabulary, spelling and grammar. They develop empathy by relating to characters and seeing the world through someone else\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Books also help children build focus and attention span. Reading builds confidence, sparks imagination and encourages creativity. A strong foundation in reading set kids up for success in every area of school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These class children\u2019s authors have created stories that continue to inspire young readers generation after generation.
