That doesn\u2019t always happen (sometimes I don\u2019t even realize it\u2019s based on a book until later!), but it\u2019s something we\u2019re also trying to do with our boys \u2013 book first, then screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this post, I\u2019m sharing my top 8 book-to-screen adaptions, plus a few on my to-watch list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Top Book to Movie (or Show) Adaptions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3O8Eknr\">All the Light We Cannot See<\/a><\/em> by Anthony Doerr<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list:<\/strong> It took me a few chapters to adjust to the switching POVs, but once I did, I couldn\u2019t put it down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise:<\/strong> A blind French girl and a German boy lives intersect during World War II, revealing how human connection and resilience endure even in the darkest times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>Marie\u2019s bravery, determination and sensitivity make her unforgettable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the show: <\/strong>4-episode series on Netflix<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4t6GnHs\">Anne of Green Gables<\/a><\/em> by L.M. Montgomery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list:<\/strong> This is one of my mom\u2019s favorites, and watching the Megan Follows version together made it special. (Also, fellow &#8220;carrots&#8221; here \u2764\ufe0f)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise:<\/strong> Orphan Ann<em>e <\/em>Shirley grows from a spirited girl into adulthood, finding family, friendship, and purpose in Prince Edward Island.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>Anne transforms hardship into a beautiful, meaningful life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the show: <\/strong>Gazebo TV, Amazon Prime Video, PBS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/48fcKvw\">The Help<\/a><\/em> by Kathryn Stockett<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list: <\/strong>A powerful story I re-read every few years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise:<\/strong> A young white writer and two Black maids in 1960s Mississippi &nbsp;share their experiences to expose racism and challenge social norms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>Bravery is contagious \u2013 both Skeeter and Aibileen prove it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the movie: <\/strong>Hulu, Amazon Price, Disney +, Apple TV, Google Play<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4bQU2eC\">Last of the Mohicans<\/a><\/em> by James Fenimore Cooper<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list:<\/strong> One of the rare situations where I preferred the movie.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise:<\/strong> Hawkeye guides two sisters through the dangers of the French and Indian War, exploring themes of survival, loyalty, and cultural conflict.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>The intensity of survival\u2014and a swoon-worthy love story. (Can anyone else recall Hawkeye yelling to Cora, \u201cYou stay alive! No matter what occurs. I will find you!\u201d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the movie: <\/strong>Tubi, Apple TV, Amazon Prime<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4cbJeJu\">The Notebook<\/a><\/em> by Nicholas Sparks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list:<\/strong> My introduction to Nicholas Sparks \u2013 and one of the most iconic love stories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise:<\/strong> Noah and Allie\u2019s love endures through time, class differences, and separation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>A timeless reminder that real love lasts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the movie: <\/strong>Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Google Play<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>6. <em>Poldark<\/em> by Winston Graham<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list:<\/strong> My husband and I were hooked on the show \u2013 and then I ended up reading all 13 books!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise:<\/strong> Ross Poldark rebuilds his life and navigates love, class tensions, and political unrest in 18th-century Cornwall.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>Life was hard\u2014and love and resilience mattered deeply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the show: <\/strong>PBS, Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>7. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3NURbcG\">Pride and Prejudice<\/a><\/em> by Jane Austen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list:<\/strong> My favorite classic \u2013 witty, romantic, and timeless.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise:<\/strong> Elizabeth Bennet navigates love, class, and misunderstandings with Mr. Darcy in Regency-era England.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>Proof that you don\u2019t need grand gestures to tell a powerful love story.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the movie: <\/strong><em>The 2005 version with Keira Knightly is a must<\/em>. Available on Google Play, Apple TV, Amazon Prime<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>8. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4dNKYtG\">We Were the Lucky Ones<\/a><\/em> by Georgia Hunter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why it made my list:<\/strong> A powerful World War II story about family and survival.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quick premise<\/strong>: A Jewish family separated during World War II fights to reunite.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What stuck with me: <\/strong>This family was marked by their unwavering hope and determination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How to watch the show: <\/strong>Hulu, Disney+<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83c\udfac <strong>My Book to Movie To-Watch List<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4lWm8d3\">Reminders of Him<\/a><\/em> by Colleen Hoover:<\/strong> One of my top reads of 2025 \u2014 thought-provoking and emotional.<br>How to watch: In theaters (March 2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4tdFZqK\">The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society<\/a><\/em> by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows: <\/strong>A charming, unforgettable read I loved.<br>How to watch: Netflix<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3NvOlel\">Remarkably Bright Creatures<\/a><\/em> by Shelby Van Pelt:<\/strong> A slow, meaningful story I didn\u2019t want to end.<br>How to watch: Coming to Netflix (May 2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/47reC42\">A Man Called Ove<\/a><\/em> by Fredrik Backman: <\/strong>A layered, heartfelt story about a grumpy man with a big heart.<br>How to watch:<br>\u2022 Swedish version (highly recommended): Netflix, Amazon Prime<br>\u2022 American version starring Tom Hanks (<em>A Man Called Otto<\/em>): Hulu, Disney+<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Final Thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I love that we get to experience stories in multiple ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Books allow us to go deeper \u2013 to understand thoughts, emotions, and details in a way that movies simply can\u2019t. But movies and shows bring stories to life in a completely different (and powerful) way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why I especially love mini-series adaptations \u2013 they have more time to stay true to the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When books are adapted for the screen, they also introduce authors to a wider audience, helping more readers discover stories they might have otherwise missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m reminded of something David Jacobs, owner of The Happy Book Stack, shared in his <a href=\"http:\/\/readersgottaread.com\/?p=557\">interview<\/a>.
