I love a good thrift store book haul—there’s nothing better than finding great books for just a few dollars. Shopping for thrifted books and used books is one of my favorite ways to grow my TBR without breaking the budget.

Here’s what I picked up this week!

The Books

Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan

  • Where I bought it: Garage sale
  • Quick Glance:
    • This was recommended on a podcast I listen to, and I added it to my wish list probably 2+ years ago!
    • What I’ve heard about it: Light, fast rom-com
    • Price: $1 (Amazon new: $7.96)

The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods

  • Where I bought it: Garage sale
  • Quick Glance:
    • I have seen this book in so many Facebook book groups, and people constantly rave about it.
    • I’m going in blind and trusting the hype on this one.
    • Price: $1 (Amazon new: $10)

The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf

  • Where I bought it: Garage sale
  • Quick Glance:
    • Another one I heard about on that same podcast—on my wishlist since 2023.
    • I know it involves a true crime element, but I’m going in without many details.
    • Price: $1 (Amazon new: $9.99)

The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick

  • Where I bought it: Goodwill
  • Quick Glance:
    • This has been popping up in multiple Facebook groups, and readers seem to love it.
    • It’s set in the 1960s, and the title reminds me of The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek (I wonder if that was intentional?).
    • Price $2 (Amazon new: $10.98)

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

  • Where I bought it: Goodwill
  • Quick Glance:
    • I’ve seen a lot of people say this is in their lifetime top 10 books.
    • It’s a massive historical saga set in the Middle Ages (973 pages 😅).
    • After sharing it on Facebook, I realized from people’s comments that it’s the first book in a series—which immediately made me hesitate since I’m not looking to commit to multiple 1,000-page books right now.
    • I may end up passing this book along unread.
    • Price:$2 (Amazon new: $19.45)

Total Spent vs. Retail Value

Total spent: $10
Estimated Amazon cost: $58.38

Not a bad haul for a week of thrifted book shopping 👀

Most Excited to Read

The book I’m most excited to read is Nora Goes Off Script. I haven’t read a rom com in awhile, and after several heavier WWII fiction reads, I’m definitely ready for something lighter and faster.

Quick Thoughts on This Book Haul:

At the start of 2026, I told myself I wouldn’t buy any new books until I worked through the stack I already own… but that clearly didn’t last long.

To be fair, I started the year light on fiction and wanted to add a few options – but it’s honestly just hard to pass up cheap used books when you find them. You never know when you’ll see that title again (or at that price).

That said, my nightstand situation is getting a little out of control – the book stacks are officially interfering with drawer access. #readerproblems

If I could redo one purchase, it would probably be Pillars of the Earth. I thought it was a stand-alone, and I’m just not in a “commit to a huge series” mood right now.
